NEW TECHNOLOGY 2005 Ion Gun / Power
Supply Systems with FlexPanel Controller
This section contains information for standard systems built
in 2005 or later.
|
For more general information
about ion guns, see:
For maintenance and troubleshooting electron
gun systems, see the following general New Technology manual sections:
-
General Troubleshooting PDF
(142 KB)
tables of symptoms and causes, general for all Kimball Physics guns
-
Gun Maintenance PDF
(19 KB)
general care of ion guns
-
Power Supply
Maintenance PDF
(2,666 KB) general description of boards, layout inside a typical
ion gun power supply, fuses
-
Also see the manual shipped
with the ion gun, especially the Data Section (performance graphs taken with
the gun during testing)
-
Call Kimball Physics. Any
troubleshooting questions will be answered by experienced employees who
actually build and test the guns or power supplies. Because of
possible High Voltage dangers, it is advisable to call the Electronics Dept for guidance in
troubleshooting the power supplies.
-
Ion guns and power
supplies can be returned to Kimball Physics for evaluation / rebuild.
Call for a return
authorization number. Rebuild of an
ion gun will include evaluation, cleaning, installation of a new
ion source, and testing. Repair of a power supply will include
evaluation and testing. It is best to return the complete system (
gun, power supply, and cables), so they can be tested together.

TRADITIONAL Ion Gun /
Power Supply Systems (Pre 2005)
This section contains information for systems built before 2005
with power supplies using analog control.
These older supplies usually have both digital and
analog meters, as well as a number of separate
potentiometers on the front They do not include the FlexPanel
controller. |
NOTE: Before attempting
to refurbish an older system which has not been used for a number of
years, please consult Kimball Physics.
Due to possible High Voltage hazards, it
is advisable to return the entire system to Kimball Physics for evaluation/rebuild. Replacement manuals may be available for older systems at a cost. When
calling or writing, it is helpful to have the serial numbers of the electron gun
(usually engraved on a gun flange) and the power supply (usually on a
tag on the back of the unit).
